City Nature Challenge

April 26 - 28, 2024 10:00AM - 4:00PM

Get outside. Watch nature. ID and discover. All ages.

Help the Puget Sound area (including Tacoma, Seattle, Bellevue, Everett and any place within Snohomish, King and Pierce counties!) show the world how biodiverse our region is by making observations of local species during City Nature Challenge!

Note: The City Nature Challenge is free. If you want to do the challenge with a group and take a guided walk at Northwest Trek (details below), you must pay park admission.

Get Into Nature

Watch nature and report

Join us, plus partners Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium and Woodland Park Zoo, in finding and documenting as much wildlife as you can! Report your findings on the iNaturalist app from April 26-29. Not familiar with the app? Not to worry, it’s super user-friendly.

Get iNaturalist
Then ID your findings

Through May 5, ID as many wildlife findings as you can on iNaturalist - your own or other people's.

Who will find the most?

Can Pierce Co. record the most sightings?
Can YOU find the most unusual species?
Get out there and let's see!

Join Naturalists at Northwest Trek

Want to take the challenge with a group? Join a 45-minute guided walk in nature at Northwest Trek Wildlife Park, and be ready to put your iNaturalist app to use on April 26-28 at 10:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. The guided walks are free with paid park admission to Northwest Trek.
