We’re excited to welcome a new feathered resident to Northwest Trek Wildlife Park. Alba, a barn owl, recently arrived and is already beginning to settle into life at Northwest Trek.
Alba joins us from the Palo Alto Children’s Museum and has completed a full wellness exam with our veterinary team. With a clean bill of health, he’s officially ready to meet guests and can be seen in the barn owl habitat.

Like many raptors, Alba is taking things at his own pace (very owl of him). Raptors don’t always reveal their personalities right away, and that’s perfectly okay. Our animal care team is giving Alba all the time and space he needs to adjust, and he’s becoming more confident each day, which is a great sign that he’s feeling right at home.
Alba is eating very well and thoughtfully works through his meals, selecting the best bits first, which is a positive indicator of comfort and engagement. As he continues to acclimate to his new habitat, we’ll learn more about his preferences and personality. Every day brings new observations from his care team, and we look forward to watching him grow more confident in his new surroundings.

Barn owls play an important role in healthy ecosystems. As skilled nocturnal hunters, they help naturally control rodent populations, supporting balanced habitats and reducing the need for chemical pest control.
By caring for animals like Alba and Təklus, our resident barn owl, Northwest Trek helps foster a deeper understanding of Pacific Northwest native wildlife and the importance of protecting the habitats these species depend on. During your next visit, keep an eye out for our new feathered friend, Alba.
