Thank you, Northwest Trek volunteers!
April 16, 2026

In honor of National Volunteer Week (April 19–25), we want to extend our gratitude to the incredible volunteers who make everything possible at Northwest Trek Wildlife Park.

Because of volunteers, Northwest Trek is able to provide exceptional care for the animals, maintain beautiful habitats, care for park grounds, and create unforgettable experiences for guests.

In 2025, we were proud to have 120 volunteers who collectively contributed 6,945 hours of service. The average volunteer logged an impressive 60 hours this year.

“Our volunteers make an impact on every corner of Northwest Trek,” said Jackie, one of the wildlife park’s dedicated naturalists who oversees the volunteer program. “The volunteers prepare diets for the animals, make magic happen at events, care for the nature throughout the park, and inspire visitors every day to make conservation efforts and spark curiosity to learn about the animals in the Pacific Northwest.”

Volunteers play a vital role across many areas of the park:

  • Nature Engagement Volunteers help guests connect with wildlife by staffing discovery carts, welcoming visitors, and supporting exhibits like the Cheney Discovery Center and Baker Cabin.
  • Special Events Volunteers bring energy and excitement to events like Slug Fest and Hoot ‘n’ Howl, assisting with activities, guest guidance, and event setup.
  • Horticulture Volunteers work hands-on with our landscapes, helping clear trails, remove invasive species, and support restoration efforts.
  • Conservation Volunteers contribute directly to species protection through amphibian egg mass surveys, bat counts, and more.
  • Maintenance Volunteers help keep the park safe and beautiful by painting, repairing, and even assisting near animal habitats.
  • Animal Care Volunteers prepare the diets every day for the animals in the wildlife park.

“Every volunteer contributes to our mission of conservation, education, and connection,” said Jackie.

Northwest Trek’s next volunteer orientation will be held on May 31, 2026. Learn more about volunteering.
