Beaver
Beavers Chip and Hudson are an easy-going pair. Find them snuggled together in their den, rearranging their habitat to their liking, or swimming around their pond.
Beavers are thought to be second only to humans in their ability to alter their environment. They are best known for their cooperative construction of elaborate dams and lodges that result in the creation of ponds or wetlands. Beavers can be active anytime but tend to be nocturnal near human activity.

My my,
what long teeth you have!
|
Beaver teeth never stop growing and become sharper with use. The outer layer of their incisors features bright orange enamel, which is much harder than the softer dentin that makes up the inner layer at the back. |
As a beaver gnaws on trees and branches, the dentin wears down much more quickly than the enamel, resulting in a chisel-like shape of the tooth. |

Skilled
swimmers
|
A beaver can swim underwater for over half a mile and remain submerged for up to fifteen minutes. |
Beaver kits have even been seen swimming just 13 hours after birth. |

Creating wetlands
for humans & animals to enjoy
|
Beavers not only create new habitats and improve the water quality in the area, but they also create economic benefits for humans. |
A beaver-created wetland will increase the amount of wildlife in that given area, providing more opportunities for the public to view and enjoy wildlife. |
