Getting ready

When you pay your admission to the park, you will receive a colored token (plastic disk) that will serve as your ticket to the tram tour. The admissions staff will tell you what time your tram is scheduled to leave.

Learn about the animals you'll be seeing on the tour.

At the station

About 15 minutes before your tram tour is scheduled to begin, you can make your way to the tour station where you will get some great information prior to boarding the tram. The naturalists will share information about the herd species that populate the free-roaming area.

Even little tykes can enjoy the Trek experience.

Things to remember

No food or beverages except water are allowed on the tour. Snacks for very young children are the exception. There are no restroom facilities at the tour station or in the free-roaming area. Strollers will be parked at the tour station. There is room for a limited number of wheelchairs on each tram. Check with admissions staff for more information.

The bison are plentiful in the park.

On your way

Once you board the tram, you're in for 55 minutes of fun as you ride through the 435 acres of forest, meadow and wetland. The bison herd might be in the first meadow, or you may see them up on the ridge.

Wide green spaces welcome the elk herd.

Through wide open spaces

The elk could be at Pothole Lake or they might be hidden back in Moose Swamp. Visitors in the first car of the 85-passenger vehicle are invited to help the naturalist driver spot animals as you wind your way along the 5-mile route.

Always fun to share a trip with your buddies.

Engaging your senses

In the winter months, the trams have windows and are heated. You can still open the windows to take photos, but the trams will not stop for that activity. (For great photos, take a photo tour.) In the summer, the windows are removed, so you can smell the bison "cologne" and hear the elk bugling in the late summer breeding season. In September you can return to Trek for a special early morning elk bugling tour.

Bring a bunch

If you have a group of 15 or more who would like to ride the tram together, Northwest Trek has a group sales department as well as school group reservations. Various facilities are available for rental as well.
