Giving

Welcome to Northwest Trek Wildlife Park's giving pages!

Northwest Trek Wildlife Park owes its existence to the original gift of the property from Dr. David and Mrs. Connie Hellyer to establish the facility, and it has benefited from the generosity of countless individuals, foundations, corporations, and other groups ever since.

Trek receives operational funding through admission fees and membership sales, gift and food sales, and a portion of Pierce County sales tax. These sources support ongoing maintenance and operations, including specific adaptations for physically challenged individuals. However, they are not adequate to totally cover much-needed large capital expenditures or maintenance items deferred in the years before Pierce County residents approved the regional funding sales tax initiative in 2000.

Private philanthropy and government grants have played a key role in building Trek over the years, enabling Trek to add the Cat Country exhibits, Cheney Discovery Center, picnic pavilion, Forest Theater, grizzly bear and black bear habitats, Baker Research Cabin, red fox and coyote exhibits, and enhancement of the gray wolf exhibit. Most recently, gifts and grants from individuals, foundations, companies, and Pierce County Conservation Futures provided funds to purchase more than 100 acres adjoining Trek.
